Venetian Stripe Screenprinted Textile Designed by Shirley Craven for Hull Traders.
This stunning geometric design featured in Shirley Craven's first collection following her graduation. Venetian Stripe was shown in 1959, along with other works including Heptad (see separate listing), at the Tristram Hunt and Stanley Coren (founders of Hull Traders) curated exhibition, ‘Young British Artists Design for the Nineteen Sixties’.
In 1960 she joined Hull Traders as Colour and Design Consultant and within two years she was the company's Chief Designer/Director, playing a pivotal role in its future.
Craven's bold use of colour was evident from her earliest of works and here it is used to great effect, controlled within its own sections but softened with the harmonious palette. Originally available in several colourways, here we have a framed blue textile that has been professionally framed and is ready to hang. A stunning piece of original hand printed 1950's British textile design from this innovative designer who helped lead an interior design revolution.
A vibrant piece of British design history to adorn your walls with. For more on Shirley Craven see our article: https://www.andersbrowne.co.uk/blogs/news/shirley-craven
