Details:
Aluminia was a Danish factory of pottery, established in Copenhagen in 1863, which took over the Royal Copenhagen porcelain factory in 1882. Each pottery operated independently under its own trade name until 1969, when the Aluminia mark ceased to be used and the Royal Copenhagen Denmark mark was used for all the company's ceramics.
The pattern was designed by Kari Christensen as part of the Tenara range for Aluminia and later Royal Copenhagen. Kari was a Norwegian ceramicist who was selected among five other ceramicists to design for the Tenara range for the Faience factory Aluminia. At this time the Royal Copenhagen artistic director was Nils Thorsson, designer of the original Baca and Tenara ceramic models.
The Tenara range was one of the most popular ever designed in Denmark, capturing bold, naturalistic patterns in blues and earth colours.
Kari returned to Norway and continued an established and celebrated career.
