Rare 24 ct Gold Plated Teak Lamp Base by Hugo Asmussen
Rare Danish Hugo Asmussen 24 Carat Gold Plate and Teak Table Lamp Base.
This large, and heavy, Hugo Asmussen gold lamp is so rare and beautiful. Designed in the 1970's for the luxury end of the interiors' market. The gold is yellow and bold, reflecting all that basque in its glory. In contrast, the teak adds that touch of class and balances the gold finish nicely. Together they create a piece of lighting that will be on the list of many collectors of 20th Century design.
All Asmussen products were cast in brass with the 24 carat gold electroplated using a technique invented by Hugo Asmussen himself. His designs originally began as family projects with all four children involved in the design process. They proved so popular, Design Asmussen was founded and is still in operation today.
If you are creating a style that harks back to the opulent interiors of the 1970s and 1980s (think Biba gold and chocolate old school glamour or 80's luxury designer looks) then this 24 carat lamp base is for you.
Shown here with a William Morris fabric shade hand made at the AndersBrowne workshop, which may be purchased separately.

About: Hugo Asmussen began his career as a blacksmith, experimenting with various materials before creating The Drop Collection, a series of gold plated pieces that were originally produced between 1975 and 2007. The first designs were produced whilst Asmussen was a farm manager who at the time was simply seeking to make decorative items to enhance furniture at a trade fair. Based in Denmark, Design Asmussen became a family affair and still continues to produce beautiful items to this day, with each piece cast in brass then burnished and finished with 24 carat gold electroplating.
