Harris Lebus was founded by Louis Lebus, a German immigrant who came over to Hull in the 1840s. The company he started would become the largest furniture company in the world, that is until its demise in the 1970s.

In the 1950s and 1960s the firm had the biggest furniture operation in Europe. In the 1960s, the design team, lead by Danish born Cyril Rostgaard, developed the Europa range. Europa was an amalgamation of Lebus best sellers, combined with modern Danish influenced styles, which was aimed at the younger market.
