Heptad Screenprint Wall Art Designed by Shirley Craven for Hull Traders.

Winner of Cotton Board and CoID Design Awards in 1959.

Heptad was one of Craven's first commercial designs and was featured in Tristram Hunt and Stanley Coren's (Hull Traders) 1959 collection, ‘Young British Artists Design for the Nineteen Sixties’. Freshly graduated one year earlier, this was the beginning of her relationship with Hull Traders. She would go on to become Chief Designer/Director within two years of joining the firm in 1960.

Craven hand screenprinted Heptad, a bold statement piece with its geometric angles and rich colour. Many of her designs were originally created for large interiors and commercial settings and this was no exception. Originally produced as a furnishing fabric in five colourways, including the two you see here. This design is one of several Hull Trader pieces featured in the V&A Museum collection - fine examples of Mid Century British Design.

We have two options in the Heptad design - green/blue and also brown/camel. Both of which would be real statement pieces for your home interior - an original piece of design history.
